Catherine Sundqvist.

Here are some more great horse images by Catherine Sundqvist from Sweden. She is an award-winning fashion photographer, and she explains the concept for these images as a commentary on fashion photography and the ridiculousness in which women are usually portrayed in the industry. The horse used in all the images is an Arabian, which happens to be the most objectified in the world of horses, getting made up with hair extensions and make-up for show.

Russia in color.

Check out these color images from Russia. They were taken between the years of 1909 - 1912 by the photographer Sergei Mikhailovich Prokudin-Gorskii. Obviously, this was way before the invention of color film so they were actually done by taking three black and white photographs in quick succession using red, blue, and green filters. Afterwards the three images were recombined and projected using a lantern allowing almost true to life color images. If you look close enough at some of the images you can see where the filters don't quite line up because of the slight movements that were made in between each shot. It is amazing how familiar and recent the color makes them feel even though they were taken over a century ago.

T.C. Steele

I have been missing home a little bit lately. Growing up I spent a lot of time in Brown County, Indiana visiting my Grandma and other extended family. My grandmother actually lived about two minutes from T.C. Steele's home, which is located way back in the beautiful woods and hills of Brown County. It is now a historical site, and we used to visit the grounds often. We would hunt Easter eggs there every Easter and even went on the tour a few times. Back then I have to admit I really could have cared less about the art Steele made, but he is an amazing painter. I particularly love his landscapes; they look just like home.

Carly Waito.

These oil paintings by Carly Waito made their way through "blogland" a few months ago, but I personally can't get enough of them.

Renaissance Surrealism.

This is just a small detail of the painting The Mocking of Christ by Fra Angelico. Considering the time period, I can't get over how oddly surreal it is.

supermarket sarah.

One of my favorite online shops is Supermarket Sarah. I wish I would have thought of this idea myself, but you shop right of her eclectically arranged walls. The items for sale are just as interesting as the walls themselves... anything from vintage items to original pieces of art.

People can make fun of me all they want, but I kind of really want this.

Lulu Wolf.

I have a soft spot in my heart for collage art. Lulu Wolf's work is so simple and so beautiful. I especially love the combination of geometric shapes and vintage cutouts.
